My Second Home

This Place

It's here in the shadows of the Road
where the river's still free
still un-cemented, and the birds untarnished by the creeping grasp of progress that my free remains.

It's in this place where the sun has dipped, but not quite set that you walk upright unencumbered by the weight
of New Mexico dirt.

The years pass, some quick,
some slow, some barely noticed,
but not today.
Today they haven't moved at all,
and I know, because I saw you
dressed in denium and laughing-
still untouched by death.

I saw your hair dancing
as you swirled in the grass
bare foot, green toed, and beautiful.
Your light eyes rich with life,
the melody of your voice
still soothing the sleeping valley
long after your singing stopped.

Since the two of us last sat here
and almost six months, since this hillside opened her arms to you.
It's fitting that nothing should change.
What could be more beautiful
then spending the sunset
together with you in this place?

Welcome
